Laurel Armes

Laurel Armes was born in a bustling suburb north of Detroit, MI. As a two-year old she took her first ballet class at Bravo Dance Center, a local studio. Uninterested, she turned to martial arts for a hobby. After spending the majority of her young childhood training and competing in Tae-Kwon-Do, it was not until she moved to New Hampshire that she discovered her true passion, dance.
From the age of 8 Laurel has been training in ballet, modern, tap, jazz, and hip-hop, first at New England School of Dance followed by Londonderry Dance Academy. Laurel is currently a dance major at Interlochen Arts Academy under the direction of Cameron Basden.
Laurel's professional performing credits include dancing the role of Clara in New England Dance Ensemble's The Nutcracker(2011), alongside ABT Ballet Master, Clinton Luckett. She has also performed in the award-winning and critically acclaimed A Child's View of the Holocaust, directed by Barbara Mullen, and Gerald Arpino's Viva Vivaldi with the Interlochen Company Dancers. Laurel danced exerpts from Coppelia, Firebird, and Swan Lake and played the role of the Fairy of Audacity in Interlochen's Sleeping Beauty.
In 2015, Laurel choreographed a modern ballet piece titled, "Artemis" performed at Interlochen Arts Academy.
Laurel's goal in life is to share her passion with all and hopes that someday she can change the world by showing young dancers that they don't have to fit the "ideal mold" to be a successful ballerina and pursue their dreams of dance.
